Interviewer: Why is maintaining our connection to nature is so important?
Jack Carman: As individuals, we do not spend all of our time inside. We like to go outside. The creation of gardens for older adults, it is important to remember this because most people do not spend all of their time inside.
By being outside, we take advantage of all of the wonderful things that nature has to offer, including:
We take it for granted that it (nature) is always going to be there. But, we really need to focus on why we need to get outside and create appropriate environments for people to be able to continue to be able to enjoy nature.
This is why we are creating Therapeutic Gardens. For people to be able to continue to take advantage of all of the positive aspects of nature.
