Interviewer: Why are our Circadian Rhythms so important?
Jack Carman: Our Circadian Rhythms are the natural wake/sleep cycle of the body.
When we travel from one time zone to another, as an example, our internal clock is thrown off. If you travel from NY to CA, there is a three-hour difference. And, if you are like me, you find yourself waking up at 3:00 in the morning, instead of 6:00, which is my normal time. And, the fastest way to reset our Circadian Rhythms is to go outside into the sunlight.
The research has shown that sunlight can help to reset your Circadian Rhythms faster and better than anything you can do.
Why this is important is because, as we age, we may be inside more. Elders who are in a care community do not get outside as much. And the older adults become disconnected with the day time and night time.
So, the best way for people is to get outside. This in turn creates a balance for our meals, exercising and many other daily activities.
We are doing is using nature to help us maintain who we are in a naturally balance state.
