Arbor Terrace, located in Middletown, NJ, is an independent living, assisted living and dementia care residence. It underwent significant renovations in 2013, creating new opportunities to create active outdoor areas for the residents of the community. One of the outdoor courtyard garden areas that was renovated to provide a variety of interests and programs for the residents was The Activities Garden. This special garden enables residents, family members and caregivers to interact in a peaceful garden setting.

The Activities Garden is plant filled space that is a setting for a multiple outdoor programs and activities. Many special garden elements that a person may find in this garden setting are a three-tiered decorative water feature providing soothing sounds and white noise backgrounds; birdfeeders, birdbaths, and birdhouses that attract a variety of birds into the garden. The raised garden planters provide the means for growing herbs and vegetables by the residents and culinary staff. A patio area outside of the dining room contains table with umbrellas and a grill for special events. The five-foot-wide tinted concrete walking path connects all of the various areas within the courtyard garden. This unique garden enables residents, family members and caregivers to interact in a peaceful garden setting
